"There comes a point in most workouts where you question what you're doing and you simply wish it would end. This happens for me in longer workouts usually---one's that are over 15 minutes and/or 7 rounds or more. I'll be plowing along and in the 4th round out of 7 I'll think, "This is stupid. I don't even care about my time. If nobody were here with me I would stop." It's at that very moment that I draw on information that I received at Greg Amundson's CrossFit Goal Setting Course. I remind myself to think positive. It takes effort but I have to block out those negative thoughts and concentrate on, "Feeding the right dog....the dog of courage." Greg beautifully illustrates how to set this plan in motion and if practiced it can have an immediate impact on your outlook both in and out of workouts. I use pieces from the Goal Setting Course in my daily life and my daily workout and the results have been nothing short of amazing."

CrossFit Amundson is renowned as the most authentic, “old school” and original CrossFit gym in the world. Our philosophy is that everyone, regardless of background, is an Athlete at heart. At CrossFit Amundson, we take a holistic approach to fitness training. Through our uniquely programmed CrossFit workouts, Warrior Yoga Practices, Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Training and Outdoor Adventures, we develop strength in the Body – Mind and Spirit.

One of our core tenants is the Principles of Alignment. We teach our Athletes how to Align their body during physical movement to ensure the production of power. We also teach the Alignment of Character, and the relationship between physical training and mental training. The vast majority of our Athletes, within one year of training at CrossFit Amundson, are propelled into their greatest accomplishments, ranging from graduating the Police and Fire Academy, to completion of the Special Forces Pipeline, to overseas study in a MBA program. These frequently heard success stories are due to equal part development in the Body, the Mind, and perhaps most importantly, the Spirit.

OUR WORKOUTS:

CrossFit Amundson prides itself on honoring the tradition, culture and history of CrossFit. In Santa Cruz County, nobody has been training in CrossFit for as long as Greg Amundson. Greg was a former owner of the very first CrossFit gym and was personally trained and mentored by the Founders of CrossFit.

The majority of our workouts are “Original CrossFit Headquarters” workouts. Nearly every workout we program at our gym was completed by Greg Amundson and original “Team Six” Athletes at the World’s first CrossFit gym. Greg was meticulous about keeping a fitness journal from his workouts beginning with his very first WOD in December of 2001. (1 round of 1K row, 21 kettlebell swings, 12 pull-ups!) Many workouts at our gym are pulled directly from Greg’s journals and from original CrossFit Headquarters workouts.

We place a high emphasis on the three tenants of CrossFit which are: Mechanics, Consistency and THEN intensity. Although we love to train hard, we love even more the pursuit of virtuosity (doing the common, uncommonly well) in functional movement. We also take a “longevity” approach to our training and workouts to ensure you a lifetime of improvement, challenge and reward.
